Most of all: the way you, at least where I come from, look at what you have and how to put it at best use. In punk rock Stockholm we didn’t have ANYONE who wanted to play bass, so I had to do it, because I wanted to play in a band. I couldn’t do it very well, but I could play steady eights on E, so thats the kind of songs we did. Eventually, we couldn’t find anyone interesting enough who played the drums, so we stole a crappy drumkit and got rid of the bass and I started playing drums, which I couldn’t, not like a normal drummer, but kind of like Maureen Tucker and I love Velvet Undergrund so that was all cool, and the broken crappy stolen drumkit had a really unique sound to it so WE were all of a sudden very unique, all ”for free”.
